What if the words you have been speaking are the very thing holding your blessing back — or unlocking it? Pastor Angel opened the Word on a Sunday morning and reminded us: GOD’s call on your life is irrevocable, HIS plan was written before you were born, and the tongue HE gave you was always meant to declare life.

There is a moment in every believer’s life when GOD calls and you are not sure it is HIM. You run to the wrong person. You misread the moment. You lay back down and wonder why nothing is changing. That was Samuel’s story — and it is ours. Pastor Angel opened 1 Samuel 3 on a Sunday morning at The Gathering and let the text do what it was always meant to do: cut through the noise and remind us that GOD is persistent, GOD is specific, and GOD never withdraws the call HE places on a life.

From the South Bronx to a jail cell in Killeen, Texas — Pastor Angel’s own testimony was woven through every point. A man who once reached between a prison bunk looking for something to end his life instead found a Gideon Bible, read Jeremiah 33:3, and heard GOD speak for the very first time. That is what happens when you stop running from the voice and say: speak, LORD, for your servant is listening.

Before you took your first breath, GOD already had a blueprint. Pastor Angel was direct: you did not choose HIM — HE chose you. The conviction you felt, whether it was ten years ago or ten minutes ago, was not coincidence. That was the FATHER drawing you to HIMSELF. As JESUS said in John 6:44, “No one comes to me unless the Father who sent me draws them.” You were drawn. That drawing is the call.

Samuel was a boy doing a small job — keeping the candles lit in the tabernacle. Nothing glamorous. Nothing that looked like a platform for a prophet. But GOD was watching, and GOD was speaking. The same is true for anyone sweeping a floor, serving in a container, answering phones for a ministry, or sitting in a nursing home praying over a list of names. No assignment in the kingdom is menial when it is done as unto the LORD. Your faithfulness in the small things is exactly what positions you for the greater call.

“For we are GOD’s handiwork, created in CHRIST JESUS to do good works, which GOD prepared in advance for us to do.”

Here is the truth Pastor Angel laid out plainly: when you obey GOD’s call, get ready for the blessing to come. Not maybe. Not eventually. Get ready. He walked the congregation through his own story — from a federal burglary conviction in Texas, to a divine encounter with a Gideon Bible in solitary confinement, to planting a church in inner-city Phoenix that eventually grew to 200 members and received a $1.5 million check to build a 32,000-square-foot facility debt-free. None of that was in Angel’s plan. Every bit of it was in GOD’s.

The enemy of obedience is fear. Fear of what people will say. Fear of what you will lose. Fear of whether it will work. Pastor Angel called it directly: the greatest enemy of GOD’s call in your life is the fear of man. The antidote is not courage — it is the fear of GOD. Reverence. Honor. Choosing to say yes to HIM regardless of what the circumstances look like. GOD sent a probation officer and a judge from Texas all the way to Phoenix to witness what HE had done with one surrendered life. That is what obedience costs — and that is what it produces.

Romans 11:29

Obedience also produces generational fruit. The decisions you are making right now — whether to step into what GOD is saying or stay back in fear — are not just about you. They are shaping what your children and grandchildren inherit. There are generational curses. But there are also generational blessings. Every time you choose to walk in the call, you are writing a legacy that reaches further than you can see.

Life & Death Are in the Power of the Tongue — and Pastor Angel made it personal. He spoke of writing letters to his grandchildren and speaking life over them. He pointed to a young woman in the congregation pursuing medicine and declared that the words of faith spoken over her journey — you’re going to make it, it’s going to work out — were not just encouragement, they were part of GOD’s equipping. The Amplified version of 2 Timothy 3:17 says GOD’s word is given so that the man or woman of GOD may be complete, outfitted, and thoroughly equipped for every good work. You are equipped. Now speak like it.

Too many people are speaking the wrong thing — complaining about the dishes, rehearsing the failures, comparing wounds, one-upping pain. Pastor Angel was clear: when you complain about what GOD has assigned to you, you negate the blessing HE was about to release. You have already gotten your reward. But when you surrender your schedule, your laundry, your worry, your history — and you open your mouth to say speak, LORD, for your servant is listening — something shifts. The HOLY SPIRIT enters the room. A heart of stone becomes a heart of flesh. And the life HE always intended for you begins to come forward.

“Don’t tell me that GOD doesn’t call and provide whatever you need in your life. HE’s able. HE’s able to take you through it. HE’s able to change your life. HE’s able to provide.”

GOD called Samuel three times before the boy knew how to answer. HE is just as persistent with you. Whatever has kept you from responding — the past you are ashamed of, the fear of what obedience will cost, the habit of speaking defeat instead of declaration — none of it has disqualified you. Jeremiah 1:5 says HE knew you before HE formed you in the womb and set you apart before you were born. That plan has not expired. Your response is still the only thing left. How many are ready to be honest with GOD and say: Speak, LORD, for your servant is listening?
