Fasting with Purpose: Aligning Our Hearts for Breakthrough

This Sunday, Pastor Hector delivered a powerful message on the importance of fasting—not just as a discipline, but as a divine invitation to deeper intimacy with God. He reminded us that fasting is more than going without food—it’s about going deeper in our relationship with the Lord.

He began with a challenge: Have we been seeking God only for what we want, without stopping to ask what He wants from us? Too often, we approach God with our list of needs and forget to offer ourselves. Fasting, Pastor Hector explained, helps realign our hearts. It shifts our focus from self to surrender.

Fasting is a discipline of humility. It’s not meant to be done with outward show or spiritual pride. As Matthew 6:16–18 teaches, we are to fast in secret—not seeking the praise of others but the reward that comes from our Father. That reward? His presence, His voice, and His direction.

“Fasting is not about what you give up—it’s about what you make room for.”

When we fast sincerely, our flesh is subdued and our spirit is strengthened. We stop seeking God just for provision and start seeking Him for His presence. And when we pair fasting with worship, Scripture, and prayer, it becomes a powerful tool of alignment—realigning our desires with God’s purposes.

Pastor Hector walked us through Joel 2:12, which says:

“Even now,” declares the Lord, “return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning.”

He encouraged us that it’s never too late to return, to start again, to pursue God with passion and expectancy. Fasting, when done with purpose and prayer, can open the door to breakthroughs we’ve long prayed for.

He also highlighted Isaiah 58:6:

“Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice… to set the oppressed free and break every yoke?”

Fasting is not just for personal gain—it’s intercessory. When we fast together as a church, it invites revival, healing, deliverance, and restoration.

“When we align our hearts with God’s will, He releases divine breakthrough.”

Pastor Hector shared personal stories of praying boldly for healing in public places—places like shopping centers and gas stations. He reminded us that God still performs miracles today, but we must first be willing, expectant, and obedient. Fasting prepares our hearts to say yes when God calls.

He urged us to fast with purpose, not performance. Whether we fast from food, social media, or distractions, the goal is intimacy with God and increased sensitivity to the Holy Spirit.

The message closed with a stirring question: “Who wants to see miracles in this church?”

The answer, for many, was a resounding yes.
