Pastor Hector Boucet opened week three of United as One Body by going deeper than feelings and emotions. A healthy church, he said, is a growing church — not just in numbers, but in the everyday actions that people around us actually see. He reminded the congregation at The Gathering Church that neighbors, co-workers, and strangers watch believers far more closely than most realize, and what they see either points people toward CHRIST or causes them to stumble.

He grounded the whole message in the early church’s example, where devotion — not personality or preference — held believers together.

“They continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.”

Acts 2:42

Pastor Boucet shared how, years ago in a church that never encouraged reading Scripture, he was told by someone in leadership that GOD would never forgive him — and because he was not in the Word himself, he believed it and carried that fear for years. “The only reason I fell into that trap is because I was not reading the Bible,” he said. Reading the WORD is not optional decoration; it is how believers know truth from opinion, and how they test what people tell them against what GOD actually says.

He pointed the church to Psalm 119:105 and 2 Timothy 3:16-17, both making the same point: the WORD does not have to reveal the whole journey at once. It only needs to light the very next step.

Pastor Boucet described praying earlier that same week for a family from Jamaica he met at the mall — a simple “buen provecho,” a twenty-minute conversation, an invitation to church. “The LORD always gives us a responsibility,” he said, “and then HE tells you, from here on is MINE.” Prayer is not passive. It is the moment believers hand a situation to GOD after doing their part in faith.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”

Philippians 4:6-7

He also read James 5:16 and Matthew 18:19-20, reminding the church that there is a special strength when GOD’s people agree and pray together in unity — genuinely, from the heart, not just with words spoken aloud.

Pastor Boucet closed with a call to consistency, not intensity. Spiritual maturity, he said, does not happen overnight — it grows through daily faithfulness. He pointed to Joshua 1:8 and Colossians 4:2, both calling believers to keep the WORD on their lips and stay devoted to prayer, watchful and thankful, day and night — not only when life is easy.

He left the congregation with three simple commandments for growing through the Word and prayer: read GOD’s WORD every day, even if it is only one verse studied deeply; set aside intentional time for prayer, alone or with a spouse; and pray with family while encouraging another believer along the way. None of it requires hours — it requires intention, repeated every single day.

Growth is never just for the individual. When each person in the body of CHRIST is growing through the Word and prayer, the whole church grows stronger together — united not by feeling, but by a shared, daily devotion to the FATHER.
