Make Room for the WORD

Citizens of HEAVEN · Living on Earth

Make room for the WORD is a call to show up empty-handed and thirsty, so GOD has somewhere to pour. That is the message Pastor Hector Boucet brought to The Gathering Church on August 16, 2026.

Pastor Hector Boucet, Lead Pastor of The Gathering Church in Hormigueros, Puerto Rico

Pastor Hector Boucet

How full is your cup, really? Pastor Hector Boucet held up an empty vessel and asked the congregation to be honest — because GOD cannot fill what is already full of everything else.

“As the deer pants for the water brooks, so pants my soul for YOU, O GOD.”

Pastor Hector Boucet opened by reminding the church why they were really there. We get excited to see each other, he said — hugging, catching up, like we haven’t seen one another in twenty years. That’s okay. But the main event of the morning was still coming, and the reason we gather at all is because of HIM. This is not about us. This is all about JESUS.
That framing set up the whole message: make room for the WORD. Pastor Boucet asked the congregation to picture a vessel — some people’s is small, some large — and to be honest about how big theirs really is. The good news, he said, is you don’t have to announce it to anyone else. You just have to be willing to be filled all the way up, because if you are willing, GOD is going to give it to you.
“As the deer pants for the water brooks, so pants my soul for YOU, O GOD, for the living GOD.”
Psalm 42:1-2

Come Thirsty

Pastor Boucet asked the congregation how many times they’ve reached for a bottle of water even after they were already full — just out of habit, not need. That’s what happens, he said, when we come to GOD already satisfied with what we have. But when you come thirsty for GOD, everything changes. HE will keep pouring in as long as you keep receiving — the only thing that stops HIM is when we say “that’s enough.”

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.”

Matthew 5:6
“If you come with an open heart, I will guarantee you — you are not going to leave here the same one you came in. Period.”
— Pastor Hector Boucet

Come Expecting GOD to Move

Pastor Boucet pointed to the story of young Samuel, who was called by name in the night and answered, “Speak, LORD, for YOUR servant is listening.” That, he said, is the posture GOD is looking for — not a spectator who shows up expecting nothing to happen, but someone ready to say “here I am” the moment GOD speaks. And GOD does speak, often through a single word, a sentence, a phrase — not necessarily the whole message, just the one thing HE wants you to carry out the door.

“Call to ME, and I will answer you and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.”

Jeremiah 33:3
Pastor Boucet was direct about the excuses people bring: “I come here and nothing happens. I leave the same way I came in.” His answer was simple — stop complaining out there to the community and stop for one minute to ask the LORD with all your heart. HE will answer. But it starts with expecting HIM to actually move in your life, not just show up in the room.

Making Room for the WORD Means Becoming a Doer

Pastor Boucet closed with the hardest part of the message: hearing the WORD isn’t enough, and neither is reading it. You could know every scripture reference by heart, he said, but if you don’t put it into practice, all of that knowledge amounts to nothing. In simple terms — hear the Word, learn what GOD says. Believe the Word, trust what GOD says. Do the Word, live according to what GOD says.

“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”

James 1:22
He named forgiveness directly: if you don’t forgive your brother, the FATHER in heaven will not forgive you. It’s written, plainly, with no room for selective obedience. Whoever came to mind while reading that sentence — that’s the person GOD is asking you to release. Making room for the WORD means acting on what it says, not just agreeing with it.
“Come thirsty. Come expecting GOD to move. Come ready to respond.”
Pastor Hector Boucet
If you’ve been coming to church and leaving unchanged, Pastor Hector Boucet’s word this week is worth sitting with: the problem was never the seat, the sermon, or the song. It’s whether you came with a heart wide open, ready to make room for the WORD to actually do something.
