“The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I fear?”
—Psalm 27:1
There are days when fear creeps in quietly, and others when it crashes down like a wave. It can come from something as ordinary as a delayed flight or as heavy as a season of waiting, loss, or uncertainty. But Psalm 27 invites us into a deeper truth: when the Lord is our light, salvation, and stronghold, fear has no lasting power.
In a message earlier in May our Pastor asked us to do more than read David’s words—it asked us to own them. Could we say out loud, “The Lord is my light”? Could we trust God enough to hand Him our worry, our dread, our restless thoughts?
A Personal Reflection
As Pastor Hector shared personal moments of fear—sitting on a plane, facing the unknown, recalling times of deep doubt—it reminded me of how many times we walk through life with trembling hearts. And yet, David declares something bold: “My heart will not fear… even then, I will be confident.”
Confidence—not in ourselves, but in the presence of a God who hides us in His shelter, lifts us high upon a rock, and calls us to seek His face. It’s a picture of refuge. Of safety. Of drawing near to a God who doesn’t promise a trouble-free life, but who promises to be with us in every valley.
An Invitation to Trust
Sometimes we need to pause and ask ourselves: Is God really my stronghold? Or am I leaning on something else—my plans, my strength, my ability to control things?
If you’re in a season where fear has been loud, you’re not alone. But the psalm ends with a promise:
“I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.”
Not just someday. Here. Now. In the middle of your mess. In the ache of your waiting. In the reality of your today.
Let’s Pray
Lord, I confess there are moments when fear feels bigger than faith. But today, I choose to believe that You are my light, my salvation, and my stronghold. Help me trust You. Help me seek Your face. Even when I’m surrounded, let me be confident that I will see Your goodness—in the land of the living. Amen.
