Restoration After Forgiveness Part 4 — Forgiveness Series
Citizens of HEAVEN · Living on Earth
Restoration After Forgiveness is the powerful conclusion to The Gathering Church's four-part Forgiveness Series, a message Pastor Hector Boucet brought to The Gathering Church on June 9, 2026, reminding every believer that GOD's grace does not end at forgiveness — HE pursues, rebuilds, and fully restores.
Pastor Hector Boucet
Forgiveness is where healing begins — but restoration is where GOD shows HIS power. What would happen if the place where you broke became the very place where KING JESUS revealed HIS glory?
“Your failure may have been loud, but GOD's grace is louder.”
Forgiveness opens the door — but restoration walks you all the way through. Throughout this four-part series, The Gathering Church has been sitting with one of the most personally challenging truths of the Christian life: that we are called not only to forgive others, but to let GOD rebuild what was broken. And for many of us, that rebuilding is the hardest part. We know what we did. We know what was done to us. And deep down, some of us have quietly decided that certain things just cannot be fixed.
Pastor Boucet opened in John 21:15–17, the moment JESUS restores Peter after his three-fold denial. HE did not confront Peter with a list of failures. HE did not shame him before the others. HE simply asked, three times, “do you love ME?” — and with each answer, HE commissioned HIM again. Feed MY lambs. Take care of MY sheep. Feed MY sheep. JESUS did not just forgive Peter — HE fully reinstated HIM into purpose. That is the GOD we serve.
“Simon, son of John, do you love ME? … Feed MY sheep.”
JOHN 21:15–17 — NKJV
GOD Does Not Abandon Us After Failure
Peter's story could have ended at the rooftop where a servant girl looked at him and said, “You were with HIM.” It could have ended at the courtyard fire where he said “I do not know the man” — not once, not twice, but three times. By any human standard, Peter had disqualified himself. And yet JESUS did not walk away. HE pursued HIM. He went to Peter on the beach, cooked him breakfast, and called him back to his commission.
Pastor Boucet made it clear: this is still how GOD moves. “JESUS did not abandon Peter after his failure — HE pursued him.” GOD still pursues broken people. No matter how loud your failure was, GOD's grace is louder. The enemy wants you to believe you are too far gone, too disqualified, too damaged to be used again. But the story of Peter from denial to Pentecost preaching proves the enemy is a liar.
“Create in me a clean heart, O GOD, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.”
PSALM 51:10 — NKJV
“
“If we fall three times, we get up four. The minute that you decide to stay on the floor and you don't want to get back up — that's when there's a problem.”
— Pastor Hector Boucet
Restoration After Forgiveness Requires Surrender
Restoration is not automatic. Pastor Boucet drew a direct line between surrender and healing: “You cannot experience restoration while holding on to pride. Healing begins when surrender begins.” This is where many believers get stuck. We know the theology. We've heard the sermon. We can even tell someone else what they need to do. But have we actually laid it down — the hurt, the bitterness, the right to be right?
He challenged the congregation to ask themselves an honest question: What is the LORD asking you to surrender that you have not surrendered yet — and why are you still waiting? The LORD is a gentleman. The HOLY SPIRIT will not force you. But every day you delay is a day the restoration you need is held just out of reach. GOD restores marriages, families, ministries, hearts, and visions — but the door opens from the inside, through surrender.
“Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as GOD in CHRIST forgave you.”
EPHESIANS 4:32 — NKJV
The enemy wants you to believe your story ends at your failure. But GOD sees something the enemy cannot — HE sees your testimony waiting on the other side of your surrender. GOD can turn pain into purpose. GOD can turn scars into testimonies. The very place where you broke can become the place where HIS power is revealed most clearly.
Walk Fully Restored After Forgiveness — Starting Today
Pastor Boucet closed the evening with one of the most powerful declarations The Gathering has spoken together as a church: “I choose freedom over bondage. I choose forgiveness over offense. I release every hurt, every disappointment, every betrayal, and every resentment that has tried to hold me back. I refuse to carry what JESUS died to remove.” But he made something clear — repeating words is not the same as meaning them. The declaration only carries power when it comes from a heart that is truly willing to change.
The HOLY SPIRIT is ready to meet you right where you are. Not where you think you should be. Not after you have cleaned yourself up. Right now, in the middle of whatever it is you are carrying. “Allow the HOLY SPIRIT to spend more time with the LORD,” Pastor Boucet said, “and I will guarantee you that changes in your life will start to flow.” Restoration after forgiveness is not a feeling you wait for — it is a decision you make when you finally say, LORD, here I am.
“What tried to destroy me will become part of my testimony.”
Pastor Hector Boucet — The Gathering Church
If you heard this message tonight and something stirred in your heart — that stirring is the HOLY SPIRIT calling you toward the restoration HE has already prepared for you. You are not defined by your past, your mistakes, your wounds, or your failures. You are a child of GOD. You are redeemed. You are restored. Do not leave today the same way you walked in. Bring it to HIM.

Is there something GOD has been asking you to surrender that you have not surrendered yet — and what is it that is still holding you back?
