Catching the Vision

From Servanthood to Commitment · Part 3

Catching the Vision is Part 3 of From Servanthood to Commitment, and Pastor Angel L. Rosa told The Gathering Church on October 6, 2026 that some things are caught, not taught — starting with a vision simple enough to write down, declare, and run with.

You can’t buy a house, get married, or build a church without commitment, Pastor Angel L. Rosa says — and commitment starts with a vision you can see.

“Some things are caught and not taught.”

Pastor Angel L. Rosa opened with a bit of his own story. After almost forty years in ministry and pastoring, he retired and moved to Puerto Rico hoping for a quiet church where he could sit, listen, and not be stirred up. Then GOD, he said, “set me up.” He met the pastor of The Gathering, was invited into the circle, and was asked if he’d read the WORD one Sunday. He resisted, but GOD kept stirring him at home until he stepped back into what HE had called him to do from the very beginning: preach the gospel.
That, he said, is why this part of the series matters. Servanthood leads to leadership, and leadership leads to commitment — and “nothing happens without commitment.” You can’t buy a house or get married without it, he pointed out, and a church can’t grow without people committed to a vision they can clearly see.
“Where there is no vision, no revelation of GOD and HIS WORD, the people are unrestrained, but blessed is he who keeps the Law of GOD.”
Proverbs 29:18

Write It Down, and Make It Plain

Pastor Angel L. Rosa explained that a vision isn’t built on market trends or business plans. It’s a mandate that comes through divine communication and is confirmed by GOD’s WORD. Without it, he said, people run around “like a chicken with its head cut off” — and nobody wants to be part of a church that doesn’t know where it’s going. He pointed the congregation to the brochure in the back, which lays out The Gathering’s vision and mission, rooted in the Great Commission to go into all the world and preach the gospel.
He turned to Habakkuk 2:2-3 — write the vision down and make it plain — and urged the church not to complicate it. A vision has to be simple enough to declare, and it takes patience, because it speaks at an appointed time. Some seasons in a church are feasts, he said, and some are famines, and anyone who leads in any church should expect to be attacked along the way. He also reminded them that vision isn’t reserved for the senior pastor. Everyone carries it.

“Write the vision down and make it plain on tablets, that he may run who reads it.”

Habakkuk 2:2
“
“You don’t have to be a senior pastor to lead vision. You can do it from the pew.”

Seeing the Unseen by Faith

Pastor Angel L. Rosa said putting legs to a vision starts with faith — you pray, you fast, and then you step up and act. He recalled churches that called themselves a “praise church” or a “WORD church,” and said none of it impresses GOD if the church isn’t winning souls. “If you’re not a soul winning church,” he said, “you ain’t a church. You’re a club.” Winning the lost, he added, is the primary goal of every believer.

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

Hebrews 11:1
He pointed to the church’s own container as a recent example. A year ago it was only a vision, with no money to back it. The leaders began creating the dream before it existed, presented it to the congregation, and even shared pictures of what it could become. When the church bought the container, it was dilapidated and broken down — so badly that the floor wasn’t safe to walk on. They gathered around it, prayed, and anointed it without going inside, then went back and asked the church if they could see it completed. “We started creating the dream before it materialized,” he said.
The same principle applies to people, he said. While pastoring near a university, he felt the LORD rebuke him for how he was looking at the people who walked through the door: “Don’t look at that person like what they are. Look at what they can become.” JESUS died for every one of them, and the WORD will change anyone’s life if they stay long enough in a church that preaches it. He also encouraged the church to pray big and believe big, including for a property of its own, a place that is possessed by GOD, where the church can pray and fast through the night.

Catching the Vision: Do Not Despise Small Beginnings

Pastor Angel L. Rosa said he’s been reading Zechariah 4:10 over and over, and one line stood out: the LORD rejoices to see the work begin. HE is happy, he said, when we trust HIM in the small things before HE gives us more. His charge for those small beginnings was simple: be faithful, be loyal, and do what GOD has called you to do. “If it’s sweeping, sweep to the glory of GOD.”

“Do not despise these small beginnings, for the LORD rejoices to see the work begin.”

Zechariah 4:10
He walked the congregation through pictures of what small beginnings became in his own ministry in Phoenix. It began with a handful of volunteers and a sidewalk Sunday school for children in the projects, with a clown, balloons, and candy handed out to kids who were “caught being good.” They gave out t-shirts that said “Yabba Dabba Do, God loves you.” Within about nine to ten months it had grown to five locations and over 300 children, and over the years more than 200 volunteers joined in. A station wagon turned into donated vans and then a bus, and the community center was eventually offered to them for free. Over fifteen years it grew into 37 ministries, and a debt-free, two-story church building.
He told of Joan Gray, a volunteer who sold her printing business to serve full time, and who still has a ministry in the inner city today. He told of the children’s camp that began with 50 kids and grew to over 150 every summer. And he was careful to give the credit away: “All I did was preach the WORD. But the people did it.” He ended with his own testimony. Fifty years ago, in a jail cell, he opened a Bible for the first time and read Jeremiah 33:3, and told GOD that if HE was real, HE would change his life. “You’re not waiting on GOD,” he said. “GOD is waiting on you.”
“Don’t give up on the dream.”
Pastor Angel L. Rosa
Catching the Vision is Part 3 of a four-part series. Pastor Angel L. Rosa’s message to The Gathering was that a vision is something you see by faith, write down plainly, and carry with commitment — starting wherever you are, with whatever small thing is in your hands. Next in the series: the price of commitment.
