One of the things that makes The Gathering so special is the people who call it home. Each person has a story—of how God led them here, how they found connection, and how they’ve stepped into their calling. In this Meet the Familyfeature, we’re excited to introduce you to Angel and Jessica, a couple whose journey is filled with faith, service, and a heart for seeing The Gathering grow into all God has planned.
When Angel and Jessica first walked into The Gathering, they knew they had found more than just a place to worship—they had found a home. From a chance meeting with Pastor Hector in Econo to stepping into leadership and ministry, their journey is a story of answered prayer, servant hearts, and God’s perfect timing.
A Chance Meeting That Changed Everything
Angel and Jessica had been living in Puerto Rico for two years, searching for an English-speaking church where they could fully understand the Word of God and be part of a family. One day while shopping at Econo, Pastor Hector noticed them—Jessica didn’t appear to be Puerto Rican, and he overheard them speaking English.
Sensing an opportunity, Pastor Hector approached them and offered a flyer for The Gathering. It was a bold but Spirit-led moment that would become the turning point in their spiritual journey on the island.
“I’ve never felt so loved on—people actually come up to you, hug you, and want to get to know you.” – Jessica

That first visit left a lasting impression. The warmth, the worship, and the sense of belonging stood out immediately. “It was an answer to prayer,” Jessica recalls. “We wanted to find a church where we could understand the Word clearly and feel connected. We were ready to plug in, not just attend.”
That same welcome extended beyond Sunday mornings. Fellowship after service, lunches with new friends, and heartfelt conversations quickly made The Gathering feel like home.
A Heart for Ministry
Angel’s ministry journey stretches back over 40 years—from directing Teen Challenge centers, to planting churches in inner-city neighborhoods, to mentoring pastors and leaders. His passion has always been the same: to see people come to Christ, find freedom, and grow in their faith.
At The Gathering, he found a pastor open to counsel and collaboration. Together they’ve discussed vision, leadership development, and practical steps for church growth.
“We want to put legs to the vision God has given for this church.” – Angel

Finding Her Role
Jessica soon stepped into a crucial role as church treasurer, organizing finances, tracking tithes and offerings, and ensuring transparency. She also manages the church calendar, prepares leadership meeting agendas, and helps keep projects moving forward.
“I’ve worked in finance at universities before, so this feels like a natural fit,” she says. “It’s a privilege to serve in this way and help steward what God has entrusted to us.”
A Family That Serves Together
Their 16-year-old son, Elijah, has also found his place. Once shy and reserved, he now greets everyone with hugs before leaving church. He volunteers, helps with church moves, and enjoys being part of the youth group. “The Gathering has helped him open up and grow,” Jessica shares.
Vision for the Future
Angel and Jessica dream of The Gathering having its own building, expanding outreach, and continuing to grow a strong, equipped body of believers. They envision a church known for love, hospitality, and deep discipleship—a place where people not only encounter God but also find a place to serve.
