Praying with the Right Motives: Aligning Our Hearts with God’s Will

This week, Pastor Hector delivered a powerful message on the importance of praying with a pure heart and aligning our requests with God’s will. Drawing from James 4:3, he reminded us that not every prayer pleases God — some are hindered by wrong motives, unforgiveness, or a desire for personal gain rather than God’s glory.

Prayer is one of the most powerful tools God has given us, but it must be handled with humility and discernment. We are called to examine our hearts before we pray, asking the Holy Spirit to reveal any selfishness, pride, or hidden sin. Pastor Hector challenged us to think carefully: Am I praying according to God’s will, or am I seeking my own way?

He warned that praying for something contrary to God’s Word can not only be ineffective but can also lead others astray. Using personal examples, he explained how even well-intentioned prayers can be harmful if they bless situations that God does not approve. Instead, we should seek God’s heart first, knowing that when we remain in Him, our desires will align with His purposes (John 15:7).

Forgiveness is also vital. Pastor Hector emphasized that unforgiveness blocks our prayers and damages our relationship with God. As Jesus taught in Mark 11:25, we must forgive others so that our heavenly Father will forgive us.

The takeaway is simple yet profound:
When we pray, we must come humbly before the Lord, aligning our hearts and motives with His will, so that our prayers will be both effective and pleasing to Him.
