Return to ME with All Your Heart

Return to ME with all Your Heart is a call Pastor Hector Boucet brought to The Gathering Church on May 3, 2026 — a direct summons from GOD to stop the half-hearted religion and come back with everything you have.

Pastor Hector Boucet, Lead Pastor of The Gathering Church in Hormigueros, Puerto Rico

Pastor Hector Boucet

What does it really mean to return to GOD? Not a Sunday performance. Not an emotional cry with no change. Pastor Boucet brings a word that confronts the comfortable and calls every heart to a full surrender — not part of you, all of you.

“Return to ME with all your heart, with fasting, weeping, and mourning.” — Joel 2:12

How many times have we stood in a church service, hands raised, singing with everything we had — while our hearts were miles away from GOD? Pastor Boucet opened this Sunday with a truth that cuts through the noise: GOD is not impressed by appearances. HE is not moved by a loud hallelujah from a cold heart. Matthew 15:8 says it plainly — these people honor ME with their lips, but their hearts are far from ME. The Gathering Church exists as a place where people come as they are, and are challenged to go deeper than the surface.
GOD’s call in Joel 2:12 is not complicated. HE does not say come back when you are perfect. HE does not say return when you stop your bad habits, get your life together, or feel ready. HE says return to ME with all your heart — now, fully, without conditions. This message is the kind that confronts you. But as Pastor Boucet reminded the congregation, the same word that confronts can also heal. That is why we gather.
“Return to ME with all your heart, with fasting, weeping, and mourning.”
Joel 2:12

GOD Is Not After Appearances — HE Wants Your Heart

One of the clearest moments in this sermon came when Pastor Boucet described what true worship looks like versus what it can become when the heart is disconnected. We can shout hallelujah. We can raise our hands. We can sing every word. And yet GOD can look at that entire performance and see nothing but empty ritual, because the heart is not surrendered. JESUS addressed this directly when HE quoted Isaiah to the religious leaders — Matthew 15:8 — reminding them that lips can lie even while lifted in praise.
The question Pastor Boucet kept pressing was simple: what are you doing when you walk out of these doors? What does your life look like when no one from church is watching? Because people outside these walls are watching. They stumble when they see someone who claims the name of CHRIST live in contradiction to that name. The light of JESUS in us must shine in every room — not just on Sunday morning.

“These people honor ME with their lips, but their hearts are far from ME.”

Matthew 15:8
“GOD does not want a better version of you. HE wants all of you.”

Two Types of Repentance — Only One That Changes You

Pastor Boucet drew a sharp line between two kinds of repentance, and understanding the difference is life-changing. Emotional repentance is real in the moment — you cry, you feel the weight of your sin, you feel genuine regret. But nothing changes. You walk out the door and you are already planning to do the same thing tomorrow. GOD sees right through it. HE is not fooled by the tears if the intention is absent. As Pastor Boucet put it, GOD just waits — “Let me know when you’re done.”
True repentance, by contrast, is what 2 Corinthians 7:10 describes as godly sorrow that leads to salvation. It breaks you. It confronts you. And most importantly, it changes your direction. You are not just sorry for what you did — you are turning around and walking a different way. True repentance is a decision, not just a feeling. It is not a promise made while crying that dissolves by morning. It is a surrendered will saying, LORD, I cannot do this alone, I need YOUR help, and I am going to stop trusting in myself.

“Godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation.”

2 Corinthians 7:10
The enemy will tell you that you have tried too many times. He will remind you of every failure, every promise you broke, every time you cried and went back. That voice is a liar. The HOLY SPIRIT is not counting your relapses. HE is waiting for the moment you stop trusting your own strength and start trusting HIS. The moment you say — LORD, I genuinely cannot do this without YOU — that is the moment true repentance begins.

Return to ME with All Your Heart — GOD Is Waiting to Restore You, Not Punish You

Pastor Boucet closed with one of the most powerful images in all of Scripture — the Prodigal Son in Luke 15. This young man walked away from everything his father gave him, burned through it all, and hit rock bottom. But there came a moment. A turn. That is repentance. He changed direction. And what did his father do? He did not wait at the door with a list of offenses. He did not stand there saying, “now you’re coming back?” He ran toward his son. That is our GOD. That is ABBA FATHER.
GOD is not waiting to punish you. HE is waiting to restore you. And HE does not want a cleaned-up version of you, a better edition, or your best self. HE wants all of you — exactly as you are today, with every broken piece and every failed attempt. When you come to HIM with your heart wide open, HE will be the one guiding you through. The changes in your life that you have tried and failed to make on your own — JESUS will do through you when you stop sending HIM on vacation and let HIM in.
“GOD is not waiting to punish you. HE is waiting to restore you.”
Pastor Hector Boucet
Today the HOLY SPIRIT is not saying return to ME soon. HE is not saying return when you stop smoking, when you stop drinking, when you finally get your act together. HE is saying return to ME now — with fasting, with weeping, with mourning, with all your heart. The day is today. Tomorrow will also be today. Stop waiting for a better version of yourself to show up. Come as you are. HE will do the rest.
