The Promise is in the Process — Part 3

Citizens of HEAVEN · Living on Earth

The Promise is in the Process — Part 3 is a powerful continuation of the journey through joy, peace, and spiritual maturity that Pastor Angel Luis Rosa has been guiding the congregation through at The Gathering Church in Hormigueros, Puerto Rico. Drawing deeply from Philippians chapter 4, Pastor Rosa brought a word about how GOD equips HIS people — through the living Word, through prayer, and through a renewed mind — to walk in contentment and joy no matter what process they find themselves in.

Pastor Angel Luis Rosa

With nearly 40 years of ministry and a testimony forged in the streets, Pastor Rosa knows what it is to go through the process. What does it really mean to have peace that passes all understanding — and can you truly rejoice always, even when the bottom drops out?

“Everybody wants the promise, but nobody wants to go through the process. You want the testimony, but you don’t want the test. You want the victory, but you don’t want the battles.”

We live in a world that wants microwave results and instant breakthroughs. But GOD’s way has always been the way of the process — the refining, the growing, the trusting. Pastor Angel Luis Rosa opened Part 3 of this series by reminding The Gathering that the Word of GOD is not just a story from long ago; it is living and active, and GOD uses it to speak directly into whatever season HIS people are walking through. When you sit down with the Word, you are sitting down with JESUS HIMSELF — because the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.
This night in particular, Pastor Rosa brought the congregation through a full summary of the four chapters of Philippians — written by the Apostle Paul from a prison cell in Rome. Not from a palace. Not from a moment of victory. From chains. And yet from those chains came the most powerful words ever written about joy, contentment, unity, and peace. That is the testimony of the process at work.
“I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances.”
Philippians 4:11

The Living Word: Your Foundation in the Process

Pastor Rosa has been teaching the Word with intensity for nearly four decades — out of prison cells, out of addiction recovery centers, out of the depths of rebellion. He knows firsthand what the Word does when it meets a broken life. He was saved because the Word came into the jail he was in and revealed the presence of GOD. And his message was clear: when you read the Word, you are reading JESUS. HE is the Word made flesh. That makes every page alive, every passage personal, and every promise real for where you are right now.
There are secrets hidden in the Word that GOD begins to reveal at just the right moment. A passage you have read twenty times may suddenly break open with a truth that hits exactly where you are in your process. Pastor Rosa urged the congregation to take notes, memorize scripture, and meditate on the Word daily. Make note cards. Put the promises where you can see them. Because the enemy attacks your thinking first — and the Word is your weapon. As Hebrews 4:12 reminds us, the Word of GOD is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword.

“Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.”

Psalm 119:105
“When you read the word, you’re reading JESUS. The word became flesh and dwelt among us. It’s not just a story or an event that happened many, many years ago — it’s a living word.”
— Pastor Angel Luis Rosa

Joy Is Not a Feeling — It Is a Command

Philippians 4 contains one of the most striking commands in all of Scripture: rejoice in the LORD always. Not when the paycheck comes in on time. Not when the bills are paid. Not when life cooperates. Always. Pastor Rosa was honest with the congregation — that word always is tough. But it is not a suggestion. It is a command from the Apostle Paul, inspired by the HOLY SPIRIT of GOD, and it carries a weight we cannot afford to ignore.
This joy that Paul commands is not a surface-level happiness. It is not a goofy, performative emotion. It is a deep, supernatural peace that comes from the HOLY SPIRIT — a relaxing joy, a settled joy, rooted in the knowledge that GOD is in control. Joy is evidence of spiritual growth. It is the strength of the LORD — and Nehemiah 8:10 reminds us that the joy of the LORD is our strength. When the enemy steals your joy, he steals your strength. That is why he targets it so relentlessly, especially when you are making progress in the kingdom.

“Do not grieve, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.”

Nehemiah 8:10
Joy also serves as a testimony. When your joy holds steady while your circumstances fall apart, the people around you cannot explain it — and that unexplainable peace becomes a witness. As JESUS said in John 15:11, HE told us these things so that HIS joy may be in us and our joy may be complete. HIS joy. In us. That is not something we manufacture — it is something we receive as we walk with HIM through the process.

The Promise is in the Process — Guard Your Mind, Find Your Peace

The final movement of this message came from Philippians 4:6–8 — one of the most practical and life-transforming passages in all of Scripture. Do not be anxious about anything. That does not mean anxiety will not visit you — Pastor Rosa was clear that anxiety is a normal human reaction to stress and circumstances. Over 350 million people worldwide live with anxiety. But GOD did not leave us without a weapon: prayer. Therapists today are discovering what JESUS knew all along — that prayer is one of the most effective ways to disrupt the anxiety cycle. Your weapon against anxiety is prayer.
And then comes verse 8 — the pattern for your mind. Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable — think about such things. GOD does not just tell you to stop thinking wrong; HE gives you something right to think about. The enemy wants to keep you rehearsing old wounds, old fears, old failures. But when you fix your mind on what GOD says about you — that you are the child of the KING, redeemed, loved, above and not beneath — the enemy loses his foothold. Guard your heart. Guide your mind. That is the discipline of the process, and it is how the promise breaks through.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to GOD. And the peace of GOD, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in CHRIST JESUS.”
Philippians 4:6–7
Pastor Rosa closed with the kind of honesty that only comes from a life truly lived in the process. Nearly 70 years old, he looked back on a young man who barely read at a third-grade level, who came out of addiction, incarceration, and deep insecurity — and he said: if GOD could take care of me then, HE will take care of me now. And HE will take care of you too. You are not walking through your process alone. You have a FATHER who is omniscient, omnipotent, and omnipresent. HE is already in your tomorrow. Trust the process. The promise is on the other side.
