There are many reasons why people come to Puerto Rico:
It’s paradise!
They have family here.
They grew up on the island and are returning to their roots.
They’re taking advantage of business incentives.
Whatever the reason, most are drawn by the beauty and rhythm of island life—sunshine, warm breezes, natural wonders, a slower pace, vibrant culture, and, of course, delicious food.
But not everyone who comes has family here. I’m one of those people. That’s why The Gathering means so much to me. From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed with open arms. This church has become my surrogate family.
Pastors Hector and Miriama are intentional about building community. Around the holidays, they organize gatherings where we eat, laugh, pray, and support one another. We go on island adventures together, reach out to those in need, and share the good news that The Gathering is here.
One thing that makes The Gathering truly unique is that we are an English-speaking church—one of the very few on the west side of the island. You might even say we’re a bit of a unicorn! For those of us still learning Spanish, having a place to worship and grow in our faith in English is a tremendous blessing.
Another reason I love The Gathering is our commitment to God’s Word. Each week, we receive solid, biblical teaching that encourages and challenges us in our walk with Christ. The pastors also invite us to use the spiritual gifts God has given us. Whether you’re interested in worship, children’s ministry, hospitality, teaching, ushering, greeting, or simply offering snacks or sharing a testimony—there’s a place for you. And if you’re in a season where you just need to receive and be loved on—we’ve got you covered.
There’s a special warmth in this place. Hugs, prayers, cheek kisses, and practical support are part of our culture. Our congregation is a beautiful blend of Puerto Rican and non-Puerto Rican members. Though English is our common language, we’re always learning from one another’s traditions, backgrounds, and perspectives.
There is joy in the house of the Lord! You can feel it—from the worship, to the sermons, to the smiles and stories shared each Sunday.
Pastor Hector often says, “We’re not a perfect church, but we serve a perfect God.” You won’t find perfect people here, but you will find genuine love, heartfelt worship, and a spiritual family that embraces you just as you are.
For me, The Gathering has truly become a home away from home. And that’s why I love it here.
